| Atlantis: The Sunken Continent |

Ever since the Greek philosopher Plato reported its descension into the sea, men throughout the centuries have wondered about its location and its marvels. Indeed, many people believe it never existed; there has not been any hard proof of its existence other than witnesses.According to Plato, Atlantis itself was a very unusual continent, for it consisted of eighteen alternating rings of water and land, with a single centre island. The central island was the most beautiful of all, as on it stood two magnificent temples constructed from precious metals; for example, one temple was said to have a wall made of gold. A few other sights were mentioned, such as the great statue of Neptune, all of which served to underscore the great wealth of Atlantis. Under able leadership, this island-nation conquered many others, thus gaining further wealth in the process. Eventually, however, they were defeated by the Greeks. They refused to worship the Greek gods and then the famed cataclysm occurred, the gods' terrible punishment of the proud Atlanteans; the whole continents suffered destructive earthquakes and was sunk into the waiting sea, disappearing without a trace.
In Greek times, many rumours, legends and stories of Atlantis spread, and some of these survived to today. In modern times, however, many theories and conjectures about Atlantis have appeared, many dealing with its possible locations. People have searched all over the world for it; even the Bermuda Triangle has been claimed by some to be the site of Atlantis-proponents of this theory say the great power sources in the temples could be causing a disruptance in that area. Some of the rumours involve giant crystals as the artifacts housed within the temples, which were said to produce energy.
